We are planning a Poop-a-poo-looza and work-party to do spring-time cleanup maintenance on the park – On Sunday, April 29, from 8 till 12.
(The work party will happen in any weather less than a downpour.)
Please respond on the volunteer page or contact Will via email or on Facebook if you are interested in helping. (Do note, this does qualify as volunteer hours for high school students and the requirements for the National Honor Society.)
The park will be CLOSED for normal usage during this work-party, but volunteers can bring their dogs to hang out in the training area while we humans make the park nice for them (and us). [One human will be asked to keep watch on the dogs while the others work – with trade-offs for breaks.]
Things that needs to get done:
- Build and hang shelving in the large shed
- Find and clean up left over messes from the winter
- Rake and pick up leaves out of the corners
- Rake wood chips off of path and back onto slope
- Spread the wood chips more evenly across the whole slope
- Mulch the area around the dog park sign and replant flowers in the garden there
- Fill in various holes around the park
- Trim, prune and otherwise prep the saplings in the park.
- Trim brush and stumps in the Training Area
- General clean up of trash in the parking lot, along park borders and inside park.
- Re-organize the planters (some need gravel and soil, most need new plants)
- Move planters back to their spots around the park
- Replace the solar lights into the planters
- Power-wash the shed corners, trash barrels, pavilion posts and hydrants
- Fix the nuts & bolts in the small trash barrels
- Re-affix the trash cans to the posts (lower/more securely)
- Hang the final trash can in the little dig side
- Spread the RAP gravel around the main entrance
- Emplace fencing to cordon off an area for grass to be planted
- Turn the soil in the cordoned off area.
- Spread grass seed & fertilizer in the cordoned off area
- Hang a new box and stock the infoboxes in the Kiosk
- Hang more solar spotlights
- Move the parking blocks back to the parking spots
- Paint new parking spot lines
- Paint the handicap parking spots
- Other things that will occur to us between now and April
Things we need people to donate, to help do this:
- Large rocks to put in the park (the larger, the better)
- Flowering plants for the planters and around the sign
- Mulch for around the sign
- Mulch for the pee-circles
