Chelmsford Dog Park Flag Contest

Dec 1, 2022 | Blog Post

Hello Chelmsford Community!

Two and a half years ago, we ran a contest to design a flag for the Chelmsford Dog Park.
Kriti Signh, a student at Chelmsford High School designed the winning entry. We had that flag printed and it’s been flying at the park since then. We also have t-shirts with the design on them in our online store.

However, weather (especially with the winds at the park) takes it’s toll, and it’s time to retire that flag.

We’re holding a new contest!

The Chelmsford Dog Association is AGAIN looking for a young, local artist to design a logo for the Chelmsford Dog Park flag!

Prizes

The prize(s) will be a $25 Amazon gift card (each) for the winner and the runner-up.

Eligibility

Anyone aged 19 and under, living in the New England area may enter. CDA Board Members and their immediate families are not eligible to participate.

Submission Guidelines

Computer Files: Preferably, very high resolution (like 6″ x 10″ and 300+ dpi, vector-based with layers.) Even if you can’t provide a file like that, you can still participate! See clarification below.

Physical Drawing: Preferably, at least 12” x 20” (3:5 proportions) in ink. Basically, something that can be cleanly scanned and scaled. Smaller submissions will be accepted, but, if we like it, we may require a larger version for it to be considered for final selection.

Clarification: Ultimately, we need something that can be printed and scaled for fairly large print areas. The artwork will be used primarily for a 3’x5’ flag at the park, but may also be used online, in print, on merchandise, etc. Flexibility is a key requirement, including the need to resize easily and to look good in black and white as well as color. Again, the final version of the artwork will need to be suitable for high quality printing.

Additional Requirements: Submission artwork should incorporate the words “Chelmsford Dog Park” (or include a blank space for us to add that text.)

You can submit as many designs as you wish. Of course, there can be only one winner and one runner-up!

You can submit designs at any time until the end of the competition (1/30/2023). We may communicate early, if we find a design unsuitable, so that you can submit another (or several more!). We also reserve the right to work with entrants to modify their designs as we see fit. Maybe we like the concept but would like to suggest some tweaks to make it more suitable.

You must submit at least one signed copy of the signed Dog Park Flag Contest Entry Form. It can be printed out or scanned and emailed (but it must be signed). If the submission is from someone under the age of 18, the form must also be signed by the parent or legal guardian of the submitter.

If you are an artist, art student or just like to come up with designs, we’d love to see your submission for our new Dog Park flag!

How to Enter

You must submit at least one Dog Park Flag Contest Entry Form for your design(s) to be considered. Failure to do so will disqualify you from the contest.

You can submit art and the signed disclaimer form in any of these ways:

  • sketches or completed original art delivered in person at one of our monthly board meetings or to a board member at the Chelmsford Dog Park (you can contact us via our website or on Facebook to arrange a meeting time.)
  • scan of art or digital design via email (attachment) to flags@chelmsforddogassociation.org
  • via the regular mail to:
    Flag Contest
    Chelmsford Dog Association
    PO Box 491
    North Chelmsford, MA 01863

Please do not send photographs unless the intention is to convert your design into art or a digital design. In the end, it must be artwork or a digital design.

Entries must conform to the Submission Guidelines (above). Entries which fail to do so may be rejected.

The deadline for entries is 12:00 PM (Noon) EDT on May 1st, 2020.

We will attempt to acknowledge all entries within one week of receipt; however, we cannot be responsible for entries or responses lost in transit.

There is no fee to enter.

Other Rules and Legal Small Print

We plan to choose one winner and one runner-up. However, we may choose to select additional runner-ups and will provide the runner-up prize to such additional selections. We reserve the right to post our favorite designs (winner and non-winner) via social media (including but not limited to Facebook). We reserve the right to add a “contest results” section on our website and social media, and if we display your design, we will link to your website, DeviantArt gallery, Instagram, Facebook page, etc. if you would provide such a link.

We will announce the winner via post to social media. If you prefer to remain anonymous, you can ask us to keep your name anonymous, and we will respect that!

If your design is not selected as the winner or runner-up, we may still use it in the future at an unknown time. If so, similar prizes will be awarded and of course, that artist will be notified, announced, and recognized.

In the event we do not receive a design we want to use, no winner will be selected. We may offer a consolation prize to the best design, even if we choose to continue looking for a different flag artwork. That is, we reserve the right to only pick a winner if we find the artwork we really want to use. Choosing a piece of artwork for the flag may not be a permanent selection. We may change the flag for one of the other submissions or run another contest for new submissions in the future.

These rules may be updated. If they are, update(s) will be prefaced with the date and the text “UPDATE:”.

See the Dog Park Flag Contest Entry Form for the rest of the legal small print and be sure to fill out the form and sign it and get that to us along with your submission(s)!
