Well, the site-walk of 54 Richardson Rd. went very well last Wednesday, and if all goes well down the road-we could have a viable Dog Park by the middle of 2013. We are now starting to put together a plan for the area we are interested in. We still have a lot of work to do, part of which involves additional fundraising efforts so we can hit the ground running when the time comes to build.
Over the years, I have heard from folks that have experience doing fundraising, and most of the people that get CDA e-mails have been patiently waiting for a way to help. I believe that time is now.
Please reply if you would be interested in joining a Fundraising Sub-committee. The purpose of the sub-committee would be to identify opportunities or methods to raise funds to support the business activities and exchanges of the Association and to take the lead in implementing those fundraising efforts when approved by the Association. All members of the Chelmsford Dog Association, whether on this subcommittee or not, have fundraising responsibilities and do participate in the Association’s efforts.
Tasks include the following, subject to Board approval:
•develop and implement a fundraising plan
•select and implement online fundraising tools
•design and implement a capital campaign
•research and write grant opportunities & applications
The primary focus of the fundraising is for the future Dog Park, and to fund the obligations of the Association (such as fees and taxes, and the costs of running the various events and seminars we sponsor. Once a group of interested applicants has come forward, we can work on more detailed ideas and goals. Our next meeting is Wednesday, June 27, 7PM, at the Adams Library, 25 Boston Rd., Chelmsford.
I look forward to hearing from you, and please let me know if you have any questions.

Here’s hoping everyone is enjoying the first haphazard days of Summer!
Here are our upcoming dates for the summer, hope we will see you at one of these events!
July 3, 2011, 2PM – Float Building session at the Chelmsford Dog Pound, 2 Olde North Rd, Chelmsford. Anyone is welcome. Our theme this year is “Dogs Gone Fishin”, so if you’d like to bring some props or decorations-we will return them to you after the parade.
July 4 – Parade participants start gathering at 7:30AM at the McCarthy Middle School. We will be at the Pound, nearby the school; and our big blue truck, trailer and float will somewhere at the school. The parade begins at 10. We will put the finishing touches on the float and will be decorating the truck, so anyone is welcome to arrive at any time. We will have lollipops and web announcements to hand out, and cold water for the walkers. If the weather is not as hot as last year, people are welcome to walk their dogs with us. We may have the Unicyclist with us again this year, and McGruff the Crime Dog may also come around.
July 9 – Walgreens is holding their First Annual Dog Rally from 10AM-3PM, at their 86 Chelmsford St. store location in Chelmsford. Walgreens is taking an active approach to charitable activities in the towns they service, and proceeds from this event will be put towards the future Dog Park in Chelmsford. Elmo and Sponge Bob will be there posing in photos with kids and dogs (packages can be made), there will be hotdogs, chips and drinks, lots of free stuff and lots of prizes. Rub My Belly Massage, Paws K-9 Bakery, Natura Dog Foods and Louise Miller will be there as well. Hendo Solo will be spinning the tunes. There will be a Board to post your “Cutest Dog Photo”, and the cutest dog gets a prize. You may even want to participate in the Dog Pageant. You can also learn how to keep your pet healthy at the Pharmacy table. Chelmsford Police will have K-9 demonstrations and you can pick up your Tick Tool while you are there. The event will be held behind the store, but there will be signs out front. Hope to see many new and old friends there!
Walgreens has also donated the design work for our new website, which launched on June 22, 2011 under www.chelmsforddogassociation.org. Andy Phelps did the design, and Will Wagner will be our new Web Master. New features will be added over time, and you can keep up with the CDA through photos, blogs, donations and the events calendar. Please feel free to forward your animal related event to email@example.com and we’ll be sure to get it posted. For other matters or questions, you can always e-mail us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Howl’ween is tentatively set for October 15, 2011 at the Parlee Corn Maze on Pine Hill Rd in Chelmsford. Much more information will be coming up on this event, as it will be our biggest one of the year. We’ll be making some changes from last year, and should have more room, and an easy to follow program. To nominate someone to be one of three judges, please send me an e-mail! You can nominate up to three people, and they will not need any special dog training.
We will be announcing our next meeting sometime in July or August, and nominations for our new Executive Board will start in September. Join us for any of our events or meetings, get to know us, and become a part of the Chelmsford Dog Association. Walk with pride, and don’t hide your Chelmsford Dog!
